Body, Mind, & Spirit: The Awakening (Paperback)

James Hackley

Price: $19.99

Book Description:

In my latest release, Body, Mind & Spirit: The Awakening, we explore the root causes of why we overeat, refuse to exercise, live chaotic lives and fail to accomplish the goals that God has intended for our lives since the dawn of time.  This is not just another diet or "weight loss" (loss of fat and muscle) book. Diets simply don't work, and we need to be more concerned about "fat loss." In fact, this guaranteed bestseller would be better categorized as a "Negativity Loss" guide: loss of negative fat, negative habits, negative foods, negative people, negative thoughts and negative actions. This guide arms you with knowledge and encouragement to put a plan into action to finally master the things that have long mastered you.

Body, Mind, & Spirit: The Awakening (eBook)

eBook Description:

Are you ready for a change? I mean, honestly and truly ready for a change? One of the earliest lessons my father taught me was to be direct, honest and always speak the truth. Unfortunately, many folks simply can't handle either–but over the next few days, that's exactly what you'll get from me. Please know that what you've already begun reading is not just another "inspirational," "weight loss" or "self-help" book designed to help you reach a short-term goal. This is a guide along a path that leads away from your current state of complacency towards total wellness. Greatness repels complacency, so if you have no desire to be great it's best that you put this guide down now and continue on the path you've been traveling for far too long. However, I can assure you that your soul will never find the peace it so desperately desires above all else.

This guide will help you discover the anointing God has intended on your life since the dawn of time. Despite those old familiar doubts that may already be creeping into your mind, He has a plan just for you. Unfortunately, if you decide not to fulfill your destiny that assignment will never be accomplished. This guide allows you to get out of your own way and become not only a blessing to yourself, but to others. I truly thank God for allowing me the opportunity to be your personal Sherpa as you trek towards a goal that may now seem as impossible as climbing the Himalayas. Once you reach the summit of your success and look back from whence you've come, your heart will rejoice because it will realize you have everything within to conquer future mountains. Your body, mind & spirit will be awakened!

If you are unsure of what it feels like to be "awakened," read on. Some things must be experienced first-hand to be understood and truly appreciated. However, a glimpse may be all that's required to initiate an irreversible process in your life. For some, that glimpse will occur for the first time while reading this guide. For many others that have yet to realize it, the process has already begun. This guide will simply help them realize it. For some, it may have begun as a result of painful life-changing events; for others, through coming in contact with folks who simply have an unexplainable "light" emanating within, through reading particular books, a recent spiritual experience–or any combination thereof. If your awakening process has just begun, this guide will certainly prepare you for the journey that lies ahead.

It's widely believed that it takes 21 days to break a habit–or better yet, just 21 days to create a new one and make sure you are on the right path towards your true destination. Therefore, I've broken this guide into 21 chapters that allow you to read, reflect, and begin to map your plan of action as you study a chapter each day.

That said, I'm extremely excited because I am well aware of all the new discoveries and revelations that await you. They happened to me! I'm not better, just different. And the difference is better. When we are blessed with a gift, we can either choose to hoard it for fear that the next blessings may be few and far between, or freely share it with others because we've learned that one of the keys that unlocks a door to happiness is the joy of giving. Despite our best efforts, we have no say in what others choose to give to us. However, we are in 100% control of what we decide to share with others. It is my choice to freely share this blessing with you. I pray that you make the most of it, because your future blessings may hinge on how you respond to this blessing.

Day One: Cracking the Code

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Make no mistake, it's extremely profitable keeping us fat. Not for you of course, but for the food and drug industries. The drug industry is well aware that people who are fat, overweight, and obese have increased medical issues and buy more non-prescriptive and prescriptive drugs than the Tyrone Biggums character from the Dave Chappelle Show. There is an unspoken financial motivation to keep folks overweight because overweight people are sicker, make great customers and simply add to the bottom line. Unfortunately, in the drug industry it's simply not profitable to make and keep people healthy. Remember, many of the drug and food companies are publicly traded corporations whose only objective is to increase profits and shareholder value.

Food companies just want to sell us more additives and foods that lower our metabolism and increase hunger (like high fructose corn syrup). This makes us fatter, which makes us want to buy even more unhealthy food. And eventually, we get sick. And what happens when we get sick? We have to buy more drugs. This premeditated vicious cycle doesn't end until you either figure it out or ultimately allow the final cog in this vicious fat cycling machine to also profit: the funeral home.

On Day 1 we'll examine how to "Crack the Code" on food labels and the various diseases that are killing us.

Day Two: Formula for Success

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Once we truly decide to end the vicious weight loss/weight gain cycle and realize the key is not to diet but rather to make a lifestyle change, we shift our thinking from merely "cutting back" to simply eating proper portions of the right foods–whole, nutritious foods that will repair, nourish, and support every cell so that our body will work for us and not against us. In no time our clothes will begin to feel a bit looser and folks will begin to comment, "You look like you've lost a few pounds." And please believe that those are some lost lbs that you certainly will not be looking to find again at the Lost & Found. As you begin tracking your daily, weekly and monthly progress; it's important to find useful tools to assist. On Day 2 we'll discuss the "Formula for Success" that will allow to consume the correct amount of daily calories to ensure a healthy lifestyle.

Day Three: Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements… Oh My

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Have you been looking for a caring, compassionate, and competent health-care provider who truly has your best interest at heart? Congratulations! You've just found one–yourself! The more you read this guide, the more you'll discover a whole new way of taking charge of your health. This guide will allow you to become your own nutrition expert, because you're bound to discover things that you've never known before. And if you ever seriously thought about how you could possibly free yourself from those daily prescription medicines, then this is the day for you. On Day 3 we'll examine the vitamins, minerals and supplements that may totally change your life!

Drug companies simply want to keep us sick so they can sell us additional drugs. However, there are many conditions that allow us to toss those medicine bottles away after we change our diets, begin exercising and taking vitamins and minerals to treat the root cause of an illness that may have plagued our life because of an unknown deficiency. You may have initially thought that a discussion about vitamins, minerals, and supplements would be as dry as a desert. Please remember that the one thing history and especially the Bible has taught us about the desert is that it's there where the true character of man is tested and his rewards are life-changing. So pack your camels, grab a few bottles of water and let's get our Bedouin on!

Day Four: How We Eat, Drink & Live

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Now that you understand how to read nutrition labels, the importance of vitamins & minerals, and how much you should be eating on a daily basis, the most important question has to be, "How do I now begin to improve the way I eat?" Try as you might, there's just no escaping the truth that what you eat today will dictate how you look and feel tomorrow. If you are a former athlete who had grown accustomed to consuming 4,000-5,000 calories each day during your active high school or college playing days, I'm sure you've come to a harsh awakening now that the rigorous training has ended and heavy food consumption continues. Please know that there's no way to continue consuming an excess of 3,000 calories a day and not expect to gain fat if you are not strength training. Most of us only require around 2,000 calories a day. No matter how we slice it, heavy eating without regular strength training and aerobic activity eventually leads to weight-related health issues…PERIOD!

Even before an introduction to athletics, most of us simply learned how and what to eat from our parents, who learned it from their parents, and so on. On Day 4 we'll examine how we eat, drink and live.

Day Five: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & Snacks

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

In today's fast-paced culture, the prospect of planning, cooking, and savoring a home-cooked meal can seem daunting. We simply live in a fast-food society where unhealthy choices are convenient and inexpensive. The quick-and-easy way of life full of microwaves, fast-food restaurants, and packaged meals easily overshadows the importance of cooking and preparing food the old-fashioned way, at home in our own kitchen. This convenience comes at a price and contains a myriad of unhealthy ingredients.

Many of us have been put on special diets to address specific health concerns, ranging from heart disease prevention and diabetes to weight loss. These diets often have us eating the same things over and over, which can become monotonous over time. Being exposed to different types of foods and creative methods of preparation can infuse our diet with a new twist and give us the delicious tastes we've been craving.

Taking a few minutes to prepare quick and healthy meals gives us more control over what we and our family are eating. Seeking out a variety of healthy recipes and preparing nutritious meals can help prevent common medical conditions and concerns, and engages our senses in a sumptuous world of flavors, textures, aromas, sights, and sounds. It can also be a wonderful way to bring our family together, while helping us save money.

On Day 5 we'll examine the benefits of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and healthy snacks.

Day Six: Sweat Equity

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Although activity and exercise only account for 10-15% of your daily calories burned, the true benefit of making this a regular part of your weekly routine can be found in increasing your lean muscle mass by performing resistance or strength training exercises. You can also decrease your amount of body fat by doing some form of aerobic exercise at least 3 days a week for no longer than 20 minutes. There are a ton of other exercise benefits to be gained through a regular fitness and nutritional plan.

On Day 6 we'll examine the benefits of regular exercise and "sweat equity."

Day Seven: Building Your Home Gym

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Making time for the gym can be the one obstacle that trips us up before we even get started. In most cases, we have to drive 20-30 minutes to get there, take five minutes to change our clothes, work out for 60 minutes (if we're lucky), and much of this time may be spent simply waiting for equipment that folks are already using—or appear to be using. And finally, that 20-30 minute drive home. Oh, and did I forget about picking up the kids from daycare or soccer practice somewhere during all of this? That's 120 minutes!

A home gym is always going to be right there for us and open 24 hours a day–even on holidays. We'll never have to wait to use a piece of equipment (unless we are lucky enough to be working out with our spouse or kids), it will always be clean (unless you are one of the sweaty and messy bammas that never wipes down the equipment when you're done) and we don't have to pay a monthly membership fee to use it. Amen!!! But best of all, we no longer have to deal with those folks who seem to only come to the gym to socialize and talk our ears off when we are just trying to get our workout on. Ummm…I'm assuming you're not one of those annoying people.

The solution to this dilemma is simply finding/making space to work out in our homes. On Day 7 we'll examine the benefits of a home gym.

Day Eight: Stalls, Plateaus and… the Last Resort

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

A fat loss stall or plateau refers to an extended period of time during fat reducing efforts where there is no weight loss according to the scale and no loss of inches according to the tape measure. If you've been following your routine to the letter of the law, and it seems that the bathroom scale has become permanently stuck, take your measurements. Also notice if your clothes are getting looser, or if you can now fit into formerly tight garments. Chances are, you are continuing to lose fat, but your body is adding lean muscle tissue, especially if you've been strength training as well. Muscle is less bulky than fat for the same amount of weight, so your body will be smaller and leaner. If this is the case, you haven't stalled at all; your body is just recomposing itself.

This is why it's so important to record our body measurements at the very beginning, so we'll have a reference as we make progress. Don't just measure chest, waist, and hip. Other key areas to measure are neck, upper arm, thigh, and calf. It's normal for the body to go through adjustment periods while we're losing fat. A plateau lasting 3 or 4 weeks is no cause for alarm, nor is it a reason to quit. Simply check your measurements as noted above, and stick with the program. Remember, this is about making permanent, lifelong changes; a few weeks is just a brief period in the rest of our life.

One other thing to consider–are you within 5-10 lbs of your goal weight? Following a healthy eating routine and exercising may have given you an increased muscle-to-fat ratio than you had previously. As noted earlier, muscle tissue weighs more than fat, but takes up less bulk. Maybe it's time to just rethink your goal weight and be happy with the progress you've made. Congratulations! Now you can focus your energies on maintaining your proper weight, instead of struggling to drop a few more pounds.

Okay, four weeks have gone by and still nada. No additional fat loss or inches? Now, this sounds like a stall and here are a few things to consider. On Day 8 we'll examine our options while facing the inevitable stalls and plateaus.

Day Nine: Sometimes Life Gets in the Way

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Despite our best efforts, we all know that sometimes life gets in the way and can truly derail our best intentions. It would be so wonderful to have loads of free time to plan our days, cook low-calorie, healthy meals, exercise without time constraints, and be able to pamper ourselves without the pressure of deadlines. Unfortunately, our lives are too hectic for that to happen in the foreseeable future. Therefore, we can just throw-up our hands in frustration and join the legions of the overweight and unfit, or we can work out a personal plan that fits within our lifestyle, taking us where we want to go.

But how do we stick to our plan when life gets in the way? That's a question that many of us encounter on a daily basis—and with good reason. There will be times when we get sick, go on vacation or are simply too busy. That doesn't mean we have to skip our workouts though. There are ways to stick to our exercise plan no matter what life throws at us. On Day 9 we'll examine what to do when life gets in the way.

Day Ten: I Believe the Seniors Are Our Future

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Every day of our life we are given a choice to grow older or grow stronger. Which one will you choose today? God willing, all of us will have a very long and productive life that allows us to see our kids develop gray hair as a result of the stress their kids and grandkids put them through. However, in order to grow old, we must first live well now.

Most folks pray that they can simply spend the last decades of life living independent, active lives. Yet many are forced into nursing homes or long-term care facilities often against their will. Why? If you think most people are in nursing homes because they are sick or suffering from diminished mental function, you're as wrong as 2+2=9. The majority of our population is in nursing homes for one simple reason; they no longer have the muscle strength to lift themselves out of a chair sans assistance or even to walk around on their own. Their muscles have grown so weak they can no longer withstand the normal forces of gravity. It is this loss of mobility that prevents our seniors from doing everyday tasks that keep them independent, like shopping, cooking and even taking a bath or shower. This is not the existence God intended for us.

Unfortunately, Juan Ponce De Leon never found that mystical Fountain of Youth after coming over with Christopher Columbus on his second voyage. However, strength training may be the next best thing. Strength training can prevent and even reverse some of the effects of aging. Traditionally, common perception has been that the loss of strength and muscle mass is a result of the natural aging process. While a certain decrease is to be expected, deterioration of the physical state is as much a result of inactivity as nature. On Day 10 we'll examine some truths that everyone needs to know in order to grow old gracefully.

Day Eleven: We Are What We Think

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Beneath the physical veneer, many of us see parts of ourselves as ugly but seem to be paralyzed in making those parts more attractive. The most desperate of those among us seem to see their entire existence as ugly. How can this be? For most people their life experiences are the principle reason why a dark cloud of despair looms above them like the TV character Schleprock from Flintstones, "Wowsy-wowsy-woo-woo" (Television anonymous here I come!) They have experienced, witnessed or been told ugly things throughout their life, and over the years these negative conscious thoughts have colored their subconscious reality. On Day 11 we will examine how to replace those ugly images and thoughts with life-changing affirmations. In essence, we are about to perform brain surgery.

Day Twelve: Prayer and Meditation

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

French philosopher Blaise Pascal famously stated, "All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone."  Now, I'm not sure if I'm willing to co-sign Pascal's theory 100% like he has a bad FICO and credit report, but I do believe he's on to something. Spending quality time with God has a way of putting the pieces of life's puzzles together. A quiet mind is the foundation of inner peace, and inner peace translates to outer peace. Therefore, if meditation is listening then I truly need to do a lot of it and perhaps you do as well. If we are busy complaining, we're not listening. If we are busy thinking why not me, we're not listening. If we are busy being negative, we're not listening. Meditation allows us to stop and listen to what we need to hear in order to make the best decisions in our life. It can be used as a daily healing ritual that calms the body, stills the mind and ushers in the Holy Spirit. When we meditate, we are taking time out of our distractions, fears, prejudices and other stresses by creating a quiet space that promotes calmness, energy, peace and a strong sense of rejuvenation. In this place of peace, many folks are first introduced to their spirituality or simply reconnect to their original spirit that somehow got lost along the way.

Unfortunately, many of us believe we don't have time to do many of the important things we know we should. Time is really all we have. It's best to endeavor to set aside quiet time; it is here that you will come to know yourself and God. Prayer and meditation are excellent methods of accomplishing these things. Pray about each task you take on, and resist taking on those tasks you have no time to pray over.

Prayer is the act of actively seeking contact with God. But how does it work? On Day 12 we'll examine the mechanics or prayer and meditation like you've never seen before.

Day Thirteen: Stress, Depression, Low Self-Esteem and Addiction: The Four Horsemen of Your Apocalypse

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Author Jon Kabat-Zinn introduced the world to the concept Wherever You Go, There You Are in his super selling book of the same title. Often we tend to believe that if we were somewhere else or doing something else with someone else, our lives would be greatly improved. However, the common denominator that arises in whatever situation we may find ourselves is ourselves. When we have destructive mental habits that cause us to become easily annoyed, bothered, angered, or we seem to always wish things were different; these tendencies will follow and haunt us to the grave. Only then will we truly discover that elusive peace that evaded us while we walked the earth. The reverse is also true. If we are a happy-go-lucky type who manages to see the good in everything and everyone, all of our days will be blessed no matter where we are. So which one are you?

In these difficult times of chaos and economic woes, perhaps you've begun to feel as if that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel has been cut off by God as a cost savings measure. On Day 13 we will examine stress, depression, low self-esteem, addiction and discuss how to keep from falling victim to these mental pitfalls.

Day Fourteen: Money, Power & Sex

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Although Lil' Kim and DMX argued (well actually Kim rapped and DMX barked) that, "Money, power & respect is the key to life," it would appear the majority of folks are in hot pursuit of money, power and sex. Now, you may be thinking, what in the Ella Fitzgerald does this discussion have to do with the "Mind"? Even more, what does it have to do with the Body, Mind & Spirit? My response: it has everything to do with it.

Just stop and think about the inordinate amount of time and effort we spend in pursuit of money, power and sex. Not to mention the anxiety, frustration and stress caused by our insatiable appetites, since the more we get, the more we want. This vicious cycle inevitably will negatively impact our body, mind, and spirit. On Day 14 we'll examine the self-imprisonment that the pursuit of money, power, and sex often brings.

Day Fifteen: Spirit vs. Soul

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

When I first considered how to best describe my life-changing epiphany of the "secret" to total wellness, I specifically chose the phrase "Body, Mind & Spirit" over the more commonly used "Body, Mind and Soul" for various reasons. First and foremost, soul and spirit are not the same thing. Now this may be the most controversial chapter in the entire book, because folks have been taught to believe the soul and spirit are synonymous. Therefore, the idea that they are indeed different flies in the face of everything you've been taught. Even preachers preach this untruth and today I pray that darkness gives way to light. Perhaps the confusion stems from the fact that the Bible was originally translated from Hebrew to Greek to Latin and then later to English. The Greek word for "life" and "soul" is the same word psuche from which we get the word "psyche" (the human faculty for thought, judgment, and emotion). Pneuma is the Greek word for "spirit."  Today we can set the record straight once and for all.

In the movie The Usual Suspects, actor Kevin Spacey plays a brilliant enigmatic character named Keyser Soze. Late in the movie Soze offers one of Hollywood's most unforgettable lines, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." Wow! I submit that the second greatest trick Satan ever pulled was convincing the world that our soul and spirit were one in the same. On Day 15 we'll discuss your spirit vs. soul.

Day Sixteen: What Religion is God?

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Before we can even begin to think about rolling up our sleeves and engaging in a discussion of "What Religion is God?" or examine the question that Time Magazine posed back in 1966, "Is God Dead?" we first have to explore the question, who is God?

We all have our own personal experiences with God and whenever I read the Bible, it tells me what He is like and what He is not like to the various characters contained within. I truly believe that we all require a firm understanding of who/what God really is, because failing to do so makes us susceptible to worshiping a false god.  On Day 16 we'll finally answer the question "What religion is God?" and so much more.

Day Seventeen: Abraham and the Buddha

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

I don't know how many countless gospel songs and sermons I've heard that mentioned how Buddhists worship the Buddha and how Muslims worship Muhammad (Peace be upon him). For the record, Buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion. In fact, there are no deities associated with Buddhism, and modern Buddhists are free to worship Christ, Allah or any polytheistic gods they choose. Although statues abound in most temples, Buddhists do not worship the material that the statue is made of. They do not bow to the substance used by the artist to create the inspiring object. They bow in remembrance of the Buddha's qualities and teachings. They bow out of gratitude for the Buddha's great kindness in teaching. They bow to themselves and to all living beings for each and every one has a Buddha Nature–the potential for enlightenment–within. Each one of us is a Buddha.

When it comes to Islam, you can still find articles that incorrectly and disrespectfully describe Muslims as "Muhammadans." In Islam, there is only one God and His name is Allah (The God). Therefore, it is forbidden for any Muslim (One who submits to God) to worship anyone but Allah. Muhammad is highly respected in Islam as the "Seal of the Prophets" (Last Prophet of God), but please know that Noah, Moses, Abraham and Jesus are also highly revered and you'll often read/hear a proper Muslim say "Peace be upon him" after uttering any of these holy names.

Let's be clear: without Judaism there would be no Christianity. Without Christianity, there would be no Islam. Three is indeed a magic number, God's number. So let's examine the three major Abrahamic religions in order of appearance: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Judaism regards itself as the religion of the descendants of Jacob, the grandson of Abraham. Christianity began as a sect of Judaism and was initially known as Jewish Christianity. It evolved into a separate religion with distinctive beliefs and practices, notably its replacement of the Jewish idea of an exclusive ethnic religious community with an inclusive, universal community of believers, the Christian Church. It replaced the idea of simple monotheism with a Triune God who is simultaneously one and three (different branches of Christianity have different interpretations, and some Christian religions don't believe in the divinity of Christ). Islam was founded by Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century upon the teachings in the Qur'an. It retained the inclusiveness of Christianity, but reverted to simple monotheism with a central, but not divine, prophet.

On Day 17 your perspective of the Abrahamic religions and Buddhism will change forever.

Day Eighteen: Fasting

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

It's no secret that food is essential to our survival, but over the years we've begun to use it as a form of comfort, medication and even as a replacement to fill a spiritual void. Since the growth of agriculture more than 10,000 years ago, man has always had an abundance of food that led to our deteriorating health and fitness level. Prior to planting crops and raising livestock, our forefathers were hunters & gatherers that had to daily set out and find food or risk starvation. Maintaining body fat was simply a natural method of avoiding starvation during winter months and other periods where food was scarce to find. With the advent of agriculture, we are now flush with food, and as a result it slowly became an addiction that even today keeps many of us in bondage. Fasting is an excellent method of freeing ourselves from this detrimental over-dependency. On Day 18 we'll examine the benefits of fasting.

Day Nineteen: The Holy Spirit

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

This is without a doubt the most important day in the entire guide, and if I've done my job correctly you should now have a clear understanding of how to take better care of your body and mind. However, understanding the Holy Spirit is fundamental in not only knowing God but receiving many of the gifts that were promised by Jesus. In fact, you can simply view the Holy Spirit as your "spiritual trainer." Thanks Pastor Michelle for the analogy!  On Day 19 we'll examine how you can get in touch with your personal spiritual trainer.

Day Twenty: I Know, But…

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

President Obama catapulted change, accountability and transparency into the forefront of the American lexicon, and much of our discussion has been geared towards information that will better arm us for change. In order to be successful, we must also allow ourselves to be accountable and transparent in our words and actions, for when we look into the mirror of God's Word, we often deny the differences between His standard and our conduct. It is accountability alone (or lack thereof) that keeps many of us from the next level. It's really hard to justify why we let ourselves go or can't find at least 30 minutes in the day to give praise, quiet our mind, or do something a little healthier than we did the day before. Can we really blame our inability to recognize our failures on the devil or someone else? Why even attempt to try to deceive ourselves? We can no longer be comfortable at the foot of the hill when God has called us to the top of the mountain.

On Day 20 we will remove all the excuses that have kept you paralyzed in inactivity for far too long.

Day Twenty-One: Your Journey Begins

Price: $2.99 | Buy Amazon | Buy Barnes & Noble

Back in the day, Hernando Cortes had a plan. He wanted to lead an expedition into Mexico to obtain its many treasures, so he presented his plan to the Spanish governor, who was so excited that he gave him 11 ships and 700 men. However, homeboy Cortes did not tell the men or the governor the complete plan. After months of travel, the 11 ships landed in Veracruz, MX on April 21, 1519 and Cortes had his men unload everything from all the ships. As they headed into their new adventure, the men turned back and saw the 11 ships burning! Their reaction was to fight back, as surely an enemy had initiated such an attack. But Cortes halted the men, as this was in his plan. He had ordered the ships to be burned. Cortes did not know what he and his men would encounter in their expeditions, but what he did know was that by burning the ships he had completely eliminated their option of going back–while creating an intensely powerful motivation to succeed.

On Day 21 we will finally burn the ships of our former selves if we truly want to succeed on this journey.
